The Veda or Science of Life, Ayurveda, is believed to have been created prior to ‘The Creation’ itself as every civilisation ever in the history has witnessed this legacy being passed on to them from their ancestors. It is a system of medicine that has evolved for a period of over 5000 years, as known to mankind and reiterates the indwelling nature of Ayurveda in India, and Indians, alike.

Life’s journey is sacred in Ayurveda and it is the summation of ‘Ayuh’ and ‘Veda’ where ‘Ayuh’ is more than just ‘life’, it is:

Arīrendriya satvātmā saṃyogo
The union of Sareera (Body), Indriya (Sensory Organs), Sattva (Mind) and Atma (Soul).

The elemental make-up of the human body has three basic stands on which the tripod of life rests: Doshas (Body Humours), Dhatus (Tissue) and Malas (Impurities). Wellness in Ayurveda is the kingpin where and outward beauty is a representation of inner well-being.

One whose Doshas, Dhatus and Malas are in the state of equilibrium and who has cheerful mind, intellect and sense organs is “Swastha” (Healthy).

There are five basic elements in Ayurveda called Panchamahabhutas (space, air, fire, water and earth) that manifest in the human body as three basic humours or bioenergetic forces known as ‘Tridoshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha). The creation, maintenance and destruction of body (tissues) as well as their assimilation and elimination is governed by them.

These principles and philosophy have been derived from universal laws that have stood the testament of time and view an individual as a unique and complex whole, including the external and internal environments. It recognizes the unique constitutional differences of all individuals and therefore recommends different regimens for different types of people. The energetic composition may be very different even in seemingly similar symptoms/ individuals, hence, require unique and different remedies. Everyone is born with a unique combination of Doshas which decides their basic constitution called Prakruti. The approaches to acquire insights are subjective, objective, and intuitive.
